The 7 Lessons That Built My Business
This is a special week!
February 14th is my company’s Foundation Day.
Eight years ago, on a quiet Valentine’s night after a date with my husband, we came home, sat on the couch, and started talking about the growing number of businesses reaching out to me for help.
I had this feeling a mix of excitement, possibility, and an unexplainable pull.
And before I even realized it… we were looking at domain names.
We were filing paperwork.
We were building something that would eventually become my life’s work.
That night changed everything.
And every year, I think back to that moment with so much fondness.
But the truth is, the journey hasn’t always been smooth and that’s exactly what makes today meaningful.
So, in honor of Foundation Day, I want to share the 7 lessons that built my business, shaped me as a founder, and continue to guide everything I’m creating.
1. Excitement Will Start You… But Discipline Will Build You
The early days were full of hustle, adrenaline, and “let’s just make this work.”
That energy is powerful but it doesn’t last forever.
Eventually, you realize:
Discipline is what builds foundations.
Excitement is what builds beginnings.
Learning to show up consistently, even on the days when everything felt uncertain, changed me as a founder.
2. Entrepreneurship Is Nothing Like Business School
I have an MBA and still, nothing prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster of building a company.
Business school teaches frameworks. Entrepreneurship teaches resilience.
In the real world:
- You learn to take risks.
- You learn to trust your instincts.
- You learn how to say “no” without guilt.
Those early struggles shaped my entire leadership philosophy.
3. Finding Your Voice Is Hard… Especially As a Woman in Tech & Marketing
One of the hardest chapters was finding confidence in a field where women, are underrepresented.
The imposter syndrome was real. Finding my voice took time. Believing I deserved to be at the table took even longer.
But here’s the truth I wish I had learned earlier:
Confidence isn’t something you wait for.
It’s something you earn by showing up consistently.
4. Serving Small Business Owners Is the Most Fulfilling Work I’ve Ever Done
Transitioning from supporting tech startups and watching small business owners grow, gain confidence, and realize what they’re capable of — that has been the most heartwarming part of this journey.
Every transformation.
Every win.
Every “I didn’t think I could do this.”
It reminds me why I started in the first place.
This work has purpose.
It’s impact.
It’s legacy.
5. You Will Think About Giving Up, More Than Once
There were many days I wanted to walk away.
Days I thought, “Maybe I should just get a job.”
But two things kept me going:
- My desire to build something meaningful
- My husband, who has always believed I’m meant to be an entrepreneur
He’s seen me as an employee. He’s seen me as a founder. He knows exactly where I thrive. And deep down, I knew it too.
6. Numbers & Risk-Taking Aren’t Optional, They’re Leadership
If I could go back and teach my younger founder self one lesson, it would be this:
Know your numbers.
Take more risks.
And take them earlier.
For too long, I operated safely, reacting instead of leading.
Now?
I’m bold about revenue, profit, pricing, investments, hiring.
Because growth requires intention, not hesitation.
7. Gratitude Is the Glue That Holds Your Foundation Together
When I look back on the past eight years, I feel nothing but gratitude:
For the opportunities.
For the hard lessons.
For the amazing clients who trusted me.
For the partners and friendships I built along the way.
For every person who believed in me even when I doubted myself.
And most importantly, I’m grateful for the chance to build a legacy, not just a business.
Looking Ahead
I’m entering a new chapter not just building a bigger business, but building a deeper one.
One with stronger systems, clearer purpose, and a vision that feels more aligned than ever.
I’m evolving.
This company is evolving.
And I’m so excited about the next phase especially what I’m creating for service-based business owners this year.
Thank you for being part of this story.
Thank you for reading, sharing, supporting, and cheering me on.
Here’s to the next 8 years and the legacy we’re building together.
Cheers!
