The Reset Ritual: How I Plan My Business (and Life) for a New Year

Every December, I do something that looks deceptively simple but changes everything about how I step into a new year.

I call it my Reset Ritual.

It’s not a formal planning retreat or a color-coded spreadsheet (though I do love a good Notion dashboard).

It’s a practice of clearing, realigning, and re-centering so I can enter January grounded, not scattered.

Because here’s what I’ve learned:

The best plans don’t come from pushing harder. They come from creating space to think clearly.

Step 1: Reflect

Before I set any goals, I take stock.

I look at three things:

  • What worked: What results, projects, or habits moved the business forward with ease?
  • What drained me: Where did I overextend, say yes too quickly, or ignore my capacity?
  • What mattered most: What memories, milestones, or moments felt genuinely meaningful?

This reflection helps me separate “busy” from “impactful.”

It’s how I make sure I’m building forward, not repeating patterns.

Step 2: Reset

Once I’ve reflected, I clear space — mentally and physically.

  • I clean out my inbox, Notion boards, and client folders.
  • I archive or delegate anything that doesn’t belong in the new year.
  • I block CEO time in my January calendar before the client work fills in.

And then I do a personal reset, too:

Walks, journaling, rest.

I give my brain and body permission to slow down because clarity needs quiet.

Step 3: Realign

Only after I’ve reflected and reset do I start thinking about goals.

I ask myself:

  • What do I want more of in 2026, in business and in life?
  • What kind of rhythm will make this next season sustainable (especially with a newborn on the way)?
  • What does success actually feel like next year, not just look like?

From there, I set 3 focus areas for Q1 — not 20.

Each one has clear next steps, realistic timelines, and breathing room.

The goal isn’t to plan every detail, it’s to make sure my direction and energy align.

Step 4: Reconnect

This part is easy to overlook but so important: I take time to reconnect with why I’m doing all this.

This year has been about laying a foundation for my business, my mindset, and my growing family.

And as I step into 2026, I want that foundation to feel solid, flexible, and filled with purpose.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that a “reset” doesn’t mean starting over.

It means carrying forward the lessons that matter and letting go of the noise that doesn’t.

Your turn

Before the year wraps up, take one hour to design your own Reset Ritual.

You don’t need a full-day retreat just a quiet hour to ask yourself:

  • What worked?
  • What drained me?
  • What do I want more of next year?

Then close your laptop, take a deep breath, and trust that clarity will follow.

You're Not Scared of Selling, You're Scared of Being Seen as You Really Are
For the longest time, I wasn't on Instagram. Not because I didn't understand the platform. Not because I didn't have time. But because I didn't want to share my personal life. I told myself I could show up professionally. That people would buy based on my expertise alone. That being visible meant just posting about my work, my frameworks, my results. What I was really saying: I don't want peopl...
The Pricing Ceiling: Why Raising Your Rates Feels Impossible (Even When You're Overbooked)
I was working 12 hours a day. Fully booked. Saying no to new clients. And my income had hit a wall. That's the moment I realized I'd built a cage around my own business. I was "successful" by every metric everyone talks about: steady clients, consistent revenue, testimonials coming in. But I was trapped. Because as a service provider, your income is limited by the amount of time you can put int...
From 1:1 Chaos to Scalable Offers: The Productization Blueprint
I used to spend four hours writing proposals that never closed. Not because the proposals were bad. Not because my pricing was off. But because I was playing a game I couldn't win: custom everything for everyone, figuring out prices on the fly, burning entire afternoons on discovery calls that led nowhere. The breaking point? I looked at my calendar and realized I'd spent 16 hours that week cre...

7 figure foundations

Every Tuesday, I share real strategies, actionable insights, and unfiltered lessons from my own journey from starting as a freelancer, to growing a multi–six-figure company, to now scaling toward seven figures. You’ll get bite-sized business advice, honest reflections from the trenches, and lessons I normally reserve for private client calls and conversations with my entrepreneur friends. It’s part strategy session, part coffee chat where we talk about what’s actually working, what’s not, and how you can apply it to grow your business sustainably. Join the 7 Figure Foundation and be part of the journey as I build, test, and share the strategies that create lasting success.
